National Children’s Dental Health Month

National Children's Dental Health Month

During National Children’s Dental Health Month it is important to make sure your family understands how a healthy mouth affects their entire body.

Every year in February, the American Dental Association (ADA) sponsors National Children’s Dental Health Month (NCDHM) to help raise awareness of the importance of oral health and how key it is in overall health and wellness. Developing good habits at a young age and visiting your dentist regularly will help for a jump start to a lifetime of healthy gums and teeth.

This month-long national awareness brings together thousands of dedicated dental professionals, educators and health care providers to help to inform parents, caregivers, teachers and others of the long term benefits to good oral health. The American Dental Association, along with ADA Foundation were happy to provide you with this year’s national Children’s Dental Health Poster campaign poster.

The slogan for NCDHM this year is “Defeat Monster Mouth” and is presented on a spectacular poster. This poster features the Mcgrinn twins, Flossy and Buck, along with their best friends, Den and Gen and K9 the dog. This group of friends are out to defeat Plaqster the Monster for good oral health. These preteen/teenage posters provide you with effective ways to “defeat monster mouth” and maintain overall good oral health. These posters will appeal to a wide variety of ages, helping speakers, teachers and others to relay information more effectively.

The NCDHM Program Planning Guide includes great resources to promote a good oral health to children. The guide provides fun and easy to do activities, a fact sheet, program planning timetable tips and more. Also the ADA has free online resources available for presentations, fun activity sheets that can be used as handouts, and ideas for the classroom.

Remember, children’s teeth are meant to last and with healthy habits such as brushing, flossing, a well-balanced diet and regular dentist visits, their teeth will remain strong and healthy!
